About Sylvia Miller

Sylvia Miller

From my earliest childhood, shapes and colors have traced the course of my life—the pitch of a neighbor’s roof seen from my bedroom window; the gentle slopes of hills and nestled buildings in a rural vista; the sharp angles of canyon walls against a blue southwestern sky. This imagery has formed the backdrop of my life. I continue to experience and accumulate more images with every passing day. How wonderful to have the gift of sight. And how wonderful to have the privilege of studying art with talented teacher/artists. Sometimes I follow traditional oil painting techniques when I paint, but for many, if not most, of my paintings, I use the painting knife as my sole tool. I find knife painting to be a bold, freeing technique....
